A nice feature of Okidata's Okifax 5300 fax machine is the ability to run its own self-diagnostic procedure. This self test will check the system's RAM, ROM, and various other components to make sure everything is running well. Once the self test has completed, a self diagnosis page will be printed out, displaying the results.
To run the self diagnostic test on an Okifax 5300:
- Press the SELECT FUNCTION button in the top portion of the operation panel. "SELECT FUNCTION (OT)" will be displayed on the screen, followed by the percentage of memory currently available.
- Press the COPY button twice. It'll beep each time (unless the volume is turned down). The first time, the display won't change. The second time, "TECH. PROGRAMMING" will appear.
- Press the YES button (the left arrow, toward the bottom of the operation panel). "1: LOCAL TEST" will be displayed.
- Press the YES button again. The display will change to "1: SELF DIAGNOSIS".
- Press YES to begin the self diagnosis. "EXECUTING" will appear on the screen. The procedure will take about a minute. When complete, the self diagnosis page will be printed out.
The self diagnosis page is meant more for technicians than end users. It includes a test pattern across the top half of the page to check the print quality.
