How to run a self diagnostic test on an Okifax 5300

Okifax 5300 fax machine

A nice feature of Okidata's Okifax 5300 fax machine is the ability to run its own self-diagnostic procedure.  This self test will check the system's RAM, ROM, and various other components to make sure everything is running well.  Once the self test has completed, a self diagnosis page will be printed out, displaying the results.

To run the self diagnostic test on an Okifax 5300:
  1. Press the SELECT FUNCTION button in the top portion of the operation panel.  "SELECT FUNCTION (OT)" will be displayed on the screen, followed by the percentage of memory currently available.
  2. Press the COPY button twice.  It'll beep each time (unless the volume is turned down).  The first time, the display won't change.  The second time, "TECH. PROGRAMMING" will appear.
  3. Press the YES button (the left arrow, toward the bottom of the operation panel).  "1: LOCAL TEST" will be displayed.
  4. Press the YES button again.  The display will change to "1: SELF DIAGNOSIS".
  5. Press YES to begin the self diagnosis.  "EXECUTING" will appear on the screen.  The procedure will take about a minute.  When complete, the self diagnosis page will be printed out.

The self diagnosis page is meant more for technicians than end users. It includes a test pattern across the top half of the page to check the print quality.
